A BBL before and after photo is a snapshot of one body, at one moment, under one set of lights. It tells you what a surgeon achieved on that patient. It does not tell you what is achievable on you. This is how to read a gallery so that the photos actually help you decide.
Why two photos never tell the whole story
A before and after pair compresses months into two frames. What it leaves out is the starting anatomy, how much fat was available to harvest, how the patient healed, and how long after surgery the second photo was taken. Two patients with identical procedures can produce very different photos — and neither surgeon did anything wrong.
What changes in a BBL — and what does not
A BBL transfers your own fat, harvested by liposuction, to reshape the gluteal region. There is no implant and no foreign material. Because of that, the result is bounded by how much fat you have and how it is distributed. A BBL reshapes and projects; it does not create tissue that was never there, and it does not lift skin that has lost its elasticity. Those are different problems with different solutions, and a good evaluation says so out loud.
How lighting, posture and timing change a photo
Three things change a before and after photo without a single surgical difference: the direction of the light (side lighting carves shadow and exaggerates projection), the pelvic tilt of the patient (arching the back changes the silhouette dramatically), and how many weeks have passed. A gallery where every “after” is shot under different lighting than the “before” is telling you something. Look for pairs shot the same way, from the same angles.
When the result is actually final
Not all transferred fat survives. A portion is reabsorbed in the first weeks — that is expected and it is part of how the procedure works. Swelling also masks the shape for months. A photo at six weeks and a photo at six months are two different pieces of information, and only one of them is the result. Ask when each photo was taken.

And does the surgeon show you results that did not go the way anyone planned? A gallery with only spectacular outcomes is a curated gallery.
Before and after in Mexico: what patients from the U.S. should check
If you are traveling for surgery, the gallery is not the only thing to verify. Check that the surgeon is board certified and that you can confirm the license number independently. Check where the surgery actually takes place — a certified hospital operating room is not the same as a procedure room inside a clinic. And check what happens after you go home, because most of the recovery of a fat graft happens far from the operating table.
